You're about to find out why we're not like the others. This isn't your average reformer class, it's strength training. Whether you've never been on a reformer or you've done a hundred classes, this is where we meet you exactly where you're at, no fluff, no judgement, just real training.
Here's everything you need to know,,,
FIRST TIME AT SWEAT LAB
WHAT TO EXPECT
We are a reformer studio, but it's not Pilates as you think you know it. We use the reformer as a stretch-based training tool (think cable machine at your local gym). We use the springs for resistance and incorporate dumbbells. Expect drop sets, working to fatigue and a playlist to get you though it.
WHAT CLASS TO BOOK
We always recommend booking into a BASE or FLOW class for your first time, regardless of your reformer experience. These sessions run at a slightly slower tempo, are more controlled, and meet you exactly where you're at — while still delivering that signature Sweat Lab burn.
Here you'll learn what we're all about while being coached with clarity so you know what you're doing and why.
WHAT TO BRING
Wear your usual gym attire
Water bottle
Grip socks
Towel
Arrive 5–10 minutes early so we can introduce ourselves as your trainer. We'll show you around the studio's amenities and introduce you to our Allegro 1 reformer machines. We'll give you a rundown of how to use the machine, how the spring system works, and how the class program will flow for that session.
Each reformer has its own equipment, although we encourage sharing when classes are full, to ensure you have the correct weight of dumbbells to get the most out of your session.
BEFORE CLASS
Sessions run for 50 minutes. You'll start with a warm-up, then your coach will guide you through each exercise block. We won't be on a reformer ourselves, but we're very animated in demonstrating what the moves look like, explaining how to set yourself up, and offering progressions to add on when you feel ready.
Your trainer will check in on you multiple times during the session to make sure you're clear on the instructions, enjoying yourself, and will offer hands-on assistance where needed.
There's usually plenty of banter, so you're sure to make some friends in between sets.
DURING CLASS
We finish each program with 2 minutes of down-regulation, lowering your heart rate, taking a few deep breaths, and recalibrating before you head into the rest of your day. It's been shown that this kind of practice can down egulate your nervous system, calming the fight-or-flight response and activating the rest and digest state so you leave feeling calmer, clearer, and ready for whatever's next.
